7 Things I’ve learnt Being A Cat Mom

If you had read my 2018 in a nutshell post previously, you would know that I’ve became a Cat Mom since last September. Nearly 6 months into having my own cat at home. Here’s some of the things that I’ve learnt being a cat mom.

1.Mesh your gates and windows!

Cats are born to be escape artists. Somehow there’s just something out of those gates that they are attracted to as compare to the safe home filled with food and water we have created for them. My silly cat especially will wait at the gate for any chance to slip out. She even ran out of the window once! So mesh those windows, Cat moms! Especially if you live in Yishun like me.

2. Sterilize your cats

That’s Coco’s uterus. It’s also enlarged cause she’s in heat as we all suspected.

My cat is a female cat. And when female cats are in heat, they meow all night long. Note, it’s all night long. It’s noisy and it affects sleep in the house. And they tend to pee out of their litter box to mark their territory. So as a responsible cat mom, you have to spay them. Sterilized cats have least health problems anyways.

3. Play with your cats

When I first brought Coco home, I had to leave for my 2 weeks Tokyo Solo Trip soon after. I had no time to bond with her and I do realized that she’s closer to my elder brothers who helped looked after her while I was away. But as I’ve spent more time with her after my trip, I realized that she knows and will come chill beside me on my bed. She only lies on top of me also and not my brothers. Cats know, they know who treats them well and will reciprocate.

4. Cat moms comes with scratches

This was a cat bite though but you get the gist.

I’m pretty fair. And a lot of people have already told me that it’s a pity that my fair arms are filled with scratches now. Thought most of the scratches are from my brother’s cat and not mine. Sometimes they will scratch you unintentionally too when their claws gets a little too long. So just remember to trim and you won’t end up with too deep scratches.

5. I’m a crazy Cat Mom

Taking thousands of photos of my cat in all different angles. Even setting up an Instagram account for my cat. Follow her @cocodeneko. Sometimes just grabbing my cat off her resting place and carry her in my arms like a baby. Hugging and squeezing her when I feel like it. Tell me these are not acts of a crazy cat mom. Lol.

6. Cats should be kept indoors

Chilling at the coffee shop

I sometimes chill with my brothers at the coffee shop nearby and I will put my cat in the grocery trolley and bring her down. Many a times she tried to escape, with my brothers chasing after her. Sometimes I bring her to the playground at night to run around a bit. Because the older cat at home will attack her at sight, she’s usually kept in my dad’s room. So I thought it’s nice to bring her out sometimes. But no, they should be kept indoors. Her most recent vet visit return with her having fur mites and also ear infection. All this she probably got when she’s on an outdoor excursion. So keep those kitties indoors. Keeps them away from crazy cat murderers also.

7. I love being a Cat mom!

Just how cute she is! <3

I love my cat. I love the fact that I’m a cat mom. Seeing my cat when I’m home makes me happy. My cat sparks joy. I’m a happy cat mom or the actual truth, I’m a happy cat slave! 😛
