Benefit They’re Real Lipstick Review

Benefit: They’re Real! Big Sexy Lip Kit

I love shopping at Sephora after the holiday period as many of the holiday kits which didn’t get sold out will often be on sale. Like how I managed to get the Kat Von D Metal Matte palette at $45 when it’s retailing at $95 upon launching.

benefit they're real lipstick

So I picked up the Benefit They’re Real Big Sexy Lip Kit on one of my post-holiday Sephora shopping trips for about $35 or so. The kit contains 4 They’re Real Double The Lip lipsticks which is a lipstick and liner in one product. The lipsticks are in fun size, at 0.75g per lipstick.

The packaging looks like a mascara tube with a cap and the twist bottom to twist up the lipsticks. Lips sticks are in tear drop shape with the liner shade at the tip for a precise application and making it easier to get into the corner of the lips.

Benefit They’re Real Lipstick Swatch

The kit consisted of 4 shades, one of each colour family which gives it a good variety.

From Top:

Flame Game: It’s a bright warm orange which is great for summer!

Pink Thrills: A lovely fuschia pink that is great for that every day Korean makeup look.

Revved-Up Red: A cool tone classic red that is not too bright.

Lusty Rose: A nude dusty rose colour for the nude lovers.

From the swatches, I would say Pink Thrills and Lusty Rose have a more prominent difference between lipstick and liner colours as compared to the other two shades.

Lip Swatches

Here’s the Benefit They’re Real Lipstick lip swatches. As mentioned, the liner shades are more prominent and obvious for Pink Thrills and Lusty Rose. I actually prefer Flame Game and Revved-Up Red simply because I’m not the liner kind of girl. I do use lip liners but I always make sure to blend it in.  Pink Thrills is not that bad but I definitely will not wear Lusty Rose as it applies, will be sure to blend the liner in as the contrast is too much for my personal liking.

All 4 shades are very wearable and suitable for most skin types. They are very creamy upon application and pretty moisturising. These won’t stain your lips as they can be wiped off pretty easily. I’ve not worn it for a longevity test but with my experience with such formulas, they won’t last between meals.

I would rate this a 3 out of 5 stars. Not a spectacular product but the idea is good and makes it easy for people who prefers the lined lip look. I personally prefer a no-frills application instead of having to hold the lipstick in a specific manner to apply.

I’m not sure if the kit is still available in local Sephora but Benefit have just launched their range of They’re Real Double The Lip in 8 different shades and it’s retailing for $35 each for the full size on Sephora.

NARS Unfiltered Palettes Review

nars unfiltered palettes

NARS Unfiltered Palettes First Impression

Nars have recently released two new cheek palettes.

The NARScissist Unfiltered Cheek Palettes in I & II. They are retailing for SGD$90 at all Nars Counters in Singapore.

Each palette comes with 6 shades and each shade is 3.5g of products. So you get 21g of product in each palette. A normal single NARS blush is 4.8g so you are really getting your money worth with this palette since a single blush is usually $50.

Unfiltered I is a warm tone palette with 3 shimmers and 3 mattes. The 3 shimmers are Watch Me, Me First and Takeover. The 3 mattes are Out There, Chic and Exhibit A.

Unfiltered II is a cool tone palette with 4 shimmers and 2 mattes. The 4 shimmers are Undefeated, Hot Sand, Fame and Candid. The 2 mattes are Conquest and Power Play.

Unfiltered II was out of stock when I head down to the Nars Counter at Tangs Orchard. It’s quite easy to see why being a cool tone palette which is slightly less pigmented than Unfiltered I.

Unfiltered I swatches beautifully and each colour in the palette is super pigmented with the blush soft and buttery to touch.

Unlike eyeshadows, a blush that is too pigmented might scare people away. But I personally love pigmented blushers. You just need a good fluffy brush and a light hand to get just the right amount of blush on the face. With that being said, Unfiltered II is perfect for makeup beginners who love to try out a range of shades from a good quality brand like NARS.

These palettes are really great as it does not only contain blush shades but highlighting shades too! Watch Me from Unfiltered I is a beautiful highlight with a golden sheen. Hot Sand from Unfiltered II is another nice highlight shade with more of a light bronze sheen to it.

Overview on NARS Unfiltered Palettes

NARSissist Cheek Palette Unfiltered II

I would think that Unfiltered I is suitable for fair to darker skin tones while Unfiltered II is suitable only for fair to medium skin tones. Somehow Unfiltered II is not as pigmented or rather as bright as compared to Unfiltered II. Both palettes have lovely shades with only Power Play from Unfiltered II being a disappointment to me. The colour doesn’t really pick up well as compared to all the other matte shades and it’s slightly chalky.

Both palettes have lovely shades with only Power Play from Unfiltered II being a disappointment to me. The colour doesn’t really pick up well as compared to all the other matte shades and it’s slightly chalky.

I also like how the palettes are of plastic material instead of the usual rubbery material which will melt under the humid Singapore weather. Trust me, that rubber material is what stopped me from buying NARS. I’m so glad that these palettes are not using that rubber material so that I can actually buy and enjoy the product without worrying about the packaging melting and making a mess!

My ratings for the palettes are as followed:

Unfiltered I: 4.5/5

Unfiltered II: 3.75/5

NARSissist Cheek Palette Unfiltered I

I highly recommend these palettes for someone who likes to try out a whole range of colours. These palettes is a bargain at $90. If you’re someone who likes pigmented blushers, just go for Unfiltered I. It’s not everywhere you can find a nice warm tone blush palette with nice pigmentation. Pink cool tones blushers are honestly, pretty easy to find.

Till the next beauty review,

First Beauty Haul in 2017: YSL Tint-In Balm

I’m a huge fan of YSL Lipsticks and I couldn’t contain my excitement when news of them releasing a new range of lipsticks is out. It’s the perfect product for my very first beauty haul in 2017! 🙂

YSL Tint-In Balm

YSL Beauty have recently launch a new range of lipsticks, the Volupté Tint-In Balm. It’s a lip tint and balm 2-in-1 kind of lip product which give that juicy gloss looked on your lips. It is highly similar to the Volupté Shine range which I love so I knew I had to get my hands on this range. And especially when it comes in such pretty layout with a lip shape core!

The Range

Available in 12 shades, you can surely find one that suits you! Or just get a couple as the payoff is sheer, these YSL Tint-In Balm are perfect for daily wear! The Lip shaped core is the lip balm which gives you the long lasting moisture! 🙂

The colour payoff is sheer at first swipe, but build-able with layering to get a deeper shade. Texture is soft and melts on your lips and totally not sticky at all though it gives that highly glossed look! Similar to the Tint-In Oil, it’s meant to last as a light tint on the lips. This range is perfect rendition of My Lips But Better kind of lipsticks. Plus points for being extra moisturising too!

Retailing at $54 each, the YSL Tint-In Balm is available at all YSL Beauty Counters across the island.

My Haul + Swatch

I’ve got 3 colours of of 12 in No 2: Tease Me Pink, No 8: Catch Me Orange and No 9: Tempt Me Pink.

Here’s the swatches, all of 1 swipe. No 2 is more like a soft sweet pink, No 8 is a pure orange and no 9 is more of a sheer fuchsia pink kinda of shade.

ysl tint-in balm swatch

I can foresee myself wearing these very often as I really like the sheer juicy look as compared to matte lippies. Non-sticky and moisturizing are huge plus points for me in a lipstick! Look out for my #MOTDs on Instagram wearing these moisturising babies soon!

Dark Hair Makeover by Artistry Hair Professional

The Colour Decision: Dark Hair Colour?

Dark Hair? Yes or No?

For the longest time, I’ve been having light hair colours.

50 Shades of Browns maybe.

Ok, I’m exaggerating.

Browns, Reds, Coppers, Neon Green Streaks with Blue and Pinks, Galaxy Hair with Blue, Purple, Pink, Teal etc. You name it, I’ve tried it.

So I’ve decided that it’s time to ditch the light tones and head to the dark side.

artistry-hair-light-to-dark

A change of hair colour can make you look very different!

Was looking through Instagram for ideas, it’s really the best place to go for beauty inspiration. I decided on two colours, Blue and Purple.

So my current hair colour is a copper base with my faded pastel streaks from the previous glow in the dark hair colours. Pretty obvious to have the purple as streaks on the bleached parts and blue as the base! So how do we get blue without bleaching?

dark hair artistry hair sg

Introducing the Blue-Black base colour! It might look black but under really strong sunlight, you can see that there’s a brilliant dark blue sheen. How I wish I can capture it on camera! I think I need to give my hair a couple more washes for the colour to fade out!

darkpurplestreaksjoyceforensia

Dark hair also gives you a healthier look in a way! I also love how the dark shades compliment my skin tone so well! You can spot the slight blue tinge of the blue-black base here!

hair-flip

Spot my purple streaks! This is why I love colour highlights so much! It just adds so much dimension to the hair colour! And a hair flip is only possible when your hair is healthy. And I’m really grateful to have Artistry Hair Professional and Elein to be taking care of my hair! <3

Colourpop Super Shock Shadows Review

Colourpop Super Shock Shadows

Colourpop has been out for a long while and I finally succumb to temptations and ordered myself a couple of the Colourpop Super Shock Shadows myself after hearing all the good reviews! Plus at USD 5 a pop, it’s not too much of a loss even if it’s not as good as the review say.

colourpop super shock shadows haul

Availability: https://colourpop.com/

You can now ship directly to Singapore on Colourpop. Alternatively, one can go through Ez-buy where shipping is actually much cheaper if you are not buying a lot.

Price: USD 5

Finishes: Pearlized/Metallics/Ultra-Metallics/Satin/Matte

Colours I’ve Gotten:

  • Luckfully (Pearlized)
  • Liberty (Ultra-Metallic)
  • Bubbly (Metallic)
  • Eye Candy (Metallic)
  • Flowershop (Pearlized)
  • Birthday Boy (Metallic) (Limited Edition)

Texture: Creme to powder (Super soft in pot)

colourpop-super-shock-shadow-cu

The texture of these Super Shock Shadows is pretty interesting. It feels like cream or I would say mousse. But it dries to a nice powder finish. Which is great because you do not have to deal with fallouts as with the usual powder shadows formulas. One thing to note is that you have to keep these shadows tightly capped if not they will probably dry out very quickly. You do not want that to happened even though these shadows are like super affordable. After exchange rate and shipping, each shadow is probably around $8.50 or less.

Verdict

Is spending USD 5 each worth for these shadows? Are they worth the trouble to get via an agent or the hefty shipping price?

YES!

But do read up on the reviews and look up on swatches online before deciding which to get. Because not all shadows are made equal! The star of my haul is definitely Liberty in the Ultra-metallic finish. I feel that you can’t go wrong with this finish and also the metallic ones!

Lasting power wise, they hold up for decently for a day at work(10 hours approx) without primer!

Have you gotten any of the Super Shock Shadows? Let me know which is your favourite!

Joyce.Forensia
