Benefit They’re Real Lipstick Review

Benefit: They’re Real! Big Sexy Lip Kit

I love shopping at Sephora after the holiday period as many of the holiday kits which didn’t get sold out will often be on sale. Like how I managed to get the Kat Von D Metal Matte palette at $45 when it’s retailing at $95 upon launching.

So I picked up the Benefit They’re Real Big Sexy Lip Kit on one of my post-holiday Sephora shopping trips for about $35 or so. The kit contains 4 They’re Real Double The Lip lipsticks which is a lipstick and liner in one product. The lipsticks are in fun size, at 0.75g per lipstick.

The packaging looks like a mascara tube with a cap and the twist bottom to twist up the lipsticks. Lips sticks are in tear drop shape with the liner shade at the tip for a precise application and making it easier to get into the corner of the lips.

The kit consisted of 4 shades, one of each colour family which gives it a good variety.

From Top:

Flame Game: It’s a bright warm orange which is great for summer!

Pink Thrills: A lovely fuschia pink that is great for that every day Korean makeup look.

Revved-Up Red: A cool tone classic red that is not too bright.

Lusty Rose: A nude dusty rose colour for the nude lovers.

From the swatches, I would say Pink Thrills and Lusty Rose have a more prominent difference between lipstick and liner colours as compared to the other two shades.

Here’s the Benefit They’re Real Lipstick lip swatches. As mentioned, the liner shades are more prominent and obvious for Pink Thrills and Lusty Rose. I actually prefer Flame Game and Revved-Up Red simply because I’m not the liner kind of girl. I do use lip liners but I always make sure to blend it in.  Pink Thrills is not that bad but I definitely will not wear Lusty Rose as it applies, will be sure to blend the liner in as the contrast is too much for my personal liking.

All 4 shades are very wearable and suitable for most skin types. They are very creamy upon application and pretty moisturising. These won’t stain your lips as they can be wiped off pretty easily. I’ve not worn it for a longevity test but with my experience with such formulas, they won’t last between meals.

I would rate this a 3 out of 5 stars. Not a spectacular product but the idea is good and makes it easy for people who prefers the lined lip look. I personally prefer a no-frills application instead of having to hold the lipstick in a specific manner to apply.

I’m not sure if the kit is still available in local Sephora but Benefit have just launched their range of They’re Real Double The Lip in 8 different shades and it’s retailing for $35 each for the full size on Sephora.

XOXO,
